Thieves could have caused a major explosion trying to blow up a cash machine at a Plymouth petrol station with a gas canister.
Police are hunting three men after the failed raid – in which the cash machine exploded and then caught fire – at the Texaco garage, in Yelverton.
The attack, which is believed to be a first in Devon and Cornwall, happened just before 4am today. The blast woke a number of local residents who dialled 999.
