A TAX on criminals branded "ridiculous" by a Plymouth judge has been scrapped.
Justice Secretary Michael Gove has announced the end of the Criminal Courts Charge after only eight months.
It comes after the compulsory fee on convicted defendants was roundly criticised as being unfair.
Some even claimed that innocent suspects would plead guilty to offences to pay a lesser charge.
