Charles Robert Broom, 66, from Honiton, Devon, appeared before Exeter Magistrates this morning charged with murdering Hilda Mary Oakland, 71.
He was remanded in custody until Monday, December 7, when a bail application will take place via video link.
He was not asked to enter a plea and spoke only to confirm his name and address.
