ARMED police officers were on standby at the football match between Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City on Saturday.
Senior officers say the decision to introduce the extra security initiative was taken as a precaution, rather than a response to any specific immediate threat.
Teams with more powerful firearms, such as automatic weapons, were also on standby to provide backup.
