A JUDGE has thrown out the case against a man accused of breaking the jaw of a stranger who had insulted his girlfriend.
Luke Butt, aged 30, has been cleared of assaulting Thomas James causing actual bodily harm in Union Street after a night out.
He has also been acquitted of a second count of common assault against the man's friend, Shane Pakeman.
It came after the arresting officer admitted he had not made notes straight after the incident.
