A man was taken to hospital in the early hours after emergency services were sent to a single-vehicle crash in Plymouth.
Two fire appliances from Crownhill and Camels Head attended the accident in Honicknowle Green.
One eyewitness said he heard the rev of an engine followed by a crash.
Pictures from the scene show firefighters working frantically to release the injured man, whose car appeared to have collided with a road sign.
