New legislation and rules covering car tax, penalties and passenger regulations kick in today - and could cost persecuted motorists hundreds of pounds.
As of today, Wednesday, March 1, the number of penalty points and fines given to drivers caught using their mobile phones behind the wheel will double.
Drivers caught using their handset whilst in contorl of a vehicle will now receive six penalty points and a £200 fine - previously three penalty points and a £100 fee.
