A man who was filmed swallowing a goldfish – and the woman who put the video on Facebook – have narrowly avoided a jail sentence, but face more than £1,000 in costs and a five-year ban on owning any fish.
Plymouth Magistrates Court heard how Daniel Challis, aged 24, has been spat at in the street, lost his home and has received death threats after he was convicted of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal under the Animal Welfare Act of 2006.
